Troubleshooting a Car That Won't Start

Did you ever consider those wonderful days when your car won't start? If you left your lights, radio, or some other electrical gizmo on after you parked the car, you know what the trouble is: Your battery is dead. Of course, there are other possible reasons that your car won't start.

Won't-start symptoms

Your car may not start for a number of reasons. The following list outlines the most common circumstances and tells you what action you can take to try to remedy each situation:

The car is silent when you turn the key in the ignition. Check the battery terminal cable connections. (See How to Check Your Car Battery.) If they look very corroded, force the point of a screwdriver (with an insulated or wooden handle) between the connector and the terminal post and twist it to lodge it firmly. Then try to start the engine. If it starts, you need to clean or replace your cables.

The car makes a clicking noise but won't start. This sound usually means a dead battery. If not, check the wiring to and from the starter for a loose connection.

The car cranks over but won't start. Check the fuel supply to your engine. If that's okay, check whether the electrical spark is getting to your spark plugs.

The engine starts but dies. If your car has a carburetor, check your carburetor adjustment and your choke to see whether the choke is first closing and then opening. If you have fuel injection, you'll need professional help.

The car won't start on rainy days. Check inside the distributor cap for dampness. If you find moisture, get some mechanic's solvent from your friendly service station — they use it to clean car parts — or buy an aerosol can of it at an auto supply store. To evaporate any dampness inside the distributor cap, turn the cap upside down and pour or spray some solvent into it. Swish it around and pour it out. Then dry the cap as best you can with a clean, lint-free rag and replace the cap.

Use only clean solvent; even a tiny speck of dirt can foul the points. Gasoline won't do because a spark can ignite gasoline fumes and cause an explosion or a fire.

The car won't start on cold mornings. For vehicles with carburetors, check the choke. Is it closed? Does it open? If you have fuel injection, you'll need to have a professional diagnose the cold-start problems.

The engine misses while idling. Check the points (if your car has a non-electronic distributor) and the spark plugs. (How to Remove Old Spark Plugs explains getting bad spark plugs gone.) Also check the fuel pump, fuel filter, and carburetor, if you have one. (If your fuel filter’s the problem, check out How to Change Your Vehicle’s Fuel Filter.)

The engine misses or hesitates during acceleration. Check the accelerator pump in the carburetor (if equipped), the spark plugs, the distributor, and the timing.

The engine knocks or pings. Check your timing; also check the octane rating of the fuel you're using. The owner's manual can tell you whether your vehicle needs regular unleaded or premium gasoline. Check the cooling system. (which The Essentials of Checking and Maintaining Your Vehicle’s Cooling System explains) Do a compression check on the engine cylinders. (Check out How to Check an Engine’s Cylinder Compression.)

Jumping a start

To safely jump a start, follow these steps:

1. Take out your jumper cables.

It's a good idea to buy a set of jumper cables and keep them in the trunk compartment. If you don't have jumper cables, you'll have to find a Good Samaritan who not only is willing to assist you but has jumper cables as well.

2. Place both cars in Park or Neutral, with their ignitions shut off and their emergency brakes on.

3. Remove the caps from both batteries (unless they're sealed). Batteries produce explosive hydrogen gas, and a spark could set it off. If the caps are open, you can avoid such an explosion. (Sealed batteries have safety valves.)

4. Connect the cables.

The positive cable has red clips at either end, and the negative cable has black clips. It's important to attach them in the proper order:

1. First, attach one of the red clips to the positive terminal of your battery (it has "POS" or "+" on it, or it's bigger than the negative terminal).

2. Attach the other red clip to the positive terminal of the GS's car.

3. Attach one of the black clips to the negative terminal on the GS's battery.

4. Attach the last black clip to an unpainted metal surface on your car that isn't near the carburetor (if your car has one) or battery.

5. Try to start your vehicle.

If it won't start, make sure that the cables are properly connected and have the GS run his or her engine for five minutes. Then try to start your car again. If it still won't start, your battery may be beyond help.

6. Disconnect the cables, thank the Good Samaritan, and resume your life.

Don't shut off your engine; drive around for a while to recharge your battery.

If your alternator light stays on or the gauge on the dashboard continues to point to "Discharge" after your car's been running, make sure that your fan belt is tight enough to run your alternator properly. If your battery keeps going dead, have a professional check both the battery and your alternator.

In any case, never drive around with a light or gauge that reads "Trouble"; have it checked out immediately — that's why those gauges are in there!

What Is Better, Diy Or Professional Wheel Repair?

Everything from curbs being too high to pot holes on the road to careless driving can easily damage car wheels especially the alloy ones which are quite prone to scuffing. At some point in the life of a driver, he or she will have to deal with the necessity of wheel repair. Now this is something that can be done in a DIY fashion or with the assistance of professionals, depending on the degree of damage.

Special wheel repair kits can be bought over the counter these days and are ideal for light scratches. A kit like this will usually come with several pieces of light-grain sand paper, some filler, primer, and of course, matching paint. Although not part of most kits, it would be advisable to apply a coat or two of lacquer on the wheel after the repair work for added protection.

When a wheel is repaired at home, it is important for the car owner to be as patient as possible because there are several steps involved in preparing the wheel prior to the actual sanding and filling. Slow and steady motions are also required for the priming and painting part because any sudden and hurried strokes will cause the paint to run. And then there is also the issue of having to look for the kind and shade of paint that is an exact match to the vehicle.

In some cases, when the scuffing is too severe to repair at home, professional services from reputable establishments like streetwheelsandtyres.com.au should be considered.

Especially when a wheel is bent out of its original alignment due to deep pot holes, a DIY-er will not be able to effectively manage the required work. Doing so may easily lead to even more damage being done to the wheels leading to more expenses at the end of the day.

Aside from the scratches caused by curbing, bent wheels, corroded finishes, and other types of wheel fractures can also be dealt with by the pros as they have the expertise for such work and the necessary equipment to manage the repairs.

Although this option comes with a rather significant cost, car owners are assured of a job well done. Repairing wheels is also cheaper than having to purchase a completely new set of matching ones. Depending on the severity of the damage, repairs can be accomplished by experts within a day or a weeks time on average.

What Is There To Know About Cheap Car Finance For Bad Credit?

For most people, gaining access to funds to purchase a car is important, but it can be quite difficult to get cheap car finance for bad credit. If they are approved for a loan, the interest rates will be significantly high and the payment terms relatively shorter than usual. But there are alternatives for those that have a low credit score. There are simpler and more manageable ways to get a car on finance even with bad credit.

It is a common mistake for people to believe that they will not be able to get car financing in the United Kingdom if they are the bearers of poor credit. Although there is truth to the fact that options will be limited, there are still plenty of lenders who are open to offering credit to drivers regardless of their present scores. Usually, these lending companies focus on other criteria aside from the applicants credit history.

The great thing about applying for cheap car finance for bad credit is that it opens the individual to numerous alternate options by providing access to a wide range of lenders across the UK. With each lender basing his approval on a variety of assessment factors, the applicant has more chances of scoring the necessary funding in no time flat.

In this case, the borrower can find a series of competitive deals depending on his needs. The rate of rejection is also significantly lowered because ones financial situation is no longer the sole basis for loan approval. Even individuals with a history of missed payments, defaults, late reimbursements, bankruptcy, and previous refusals will again have access to much needed credit provisions.

But although there are now multiple options that drivers can consider, they should still spend time looking for the best car financing deal they could find and of course, they could afford. May it be cheap car finance for bad credit or regular car loans, there is no such thing as a guaranteed car financing solution. If there was, there will be no need for assessments, documentary requirements, applications, and the like.

Even if alternate lending companies assess individuals based on other factors apart from their credit histories, there still exists a certain criteria that a borrower has to satisfy. With loans being challenging to come by, there are companies that take advantage of those who are in dire need of funds by falsely advertising guaranteed loans for vehicles and the like. Always remember that even companies that say they accept 100% of loan applications have a non-acceptance rate of at least 10%.

This is the reason why it is very important for those looking for car financing to do their research beforehand and read the fine print especially contracts handed to them. Almost always, it is the best loan brokers that provide affordable solutions and reasonable payment plans that can be customized for each client and his monetary capabilities. These brokers also have an extensive network of lenders that they constantly work hand in hand.

Thats why nearly all our customers end up giving lots of praise and acknowledging how we provided a one-of-a-kind service. Maintaining a good reputation is a never-ending task, especially since we want to keep edging out the competition.

For the customers, we believe that they must always ask the following questions listed below to whichever transportation provider theyre considering. Doing so helps one get a better understanding of the company, the things it can or cannot offer and its overall reputation.

What are the operational hours of your services?

The ideal company should have different kinds and sizes of vehicles available for use 24/7, every day of the entire year. Holidays shouldnt be days off for them.

How do your go about charging the total amount?

Car services do have various ways of determining prices or charges. One way is surge pricing or an approach that raises the rate of a vehicle based on the demand at the moment. However, that approach is normally taken for ridesharing services such as Lyft or Uber, which can provide transport in a matter of moments if not on the spot. Typical luxury vehicle providers would have preset fees that depend on the length or distance covered by the ride. To get pricing information helps you determine whether the company offers value-for-money transportation.

How flexible are you with regards to changes made at the last minute?

Plans are always subject to changes, even those that have been planned for months. The best transportation providers are adept in adjusting to last-minutes changes in any schedule, location or request. One way of finding this out is checking whether theyd charge extra for doing so and how much the fee would be. The more flexible a company is, the more youd feel that you could rely on them.

Can you provide a ride for the number of people in my group?

The more experienced or more respectable companies have the means to accommodate different numbers of people. Before a booking, its always good to check on the actual vehicle that can comfortably fit your entire party and see how it looks inside in person. Thats your right as a prospective client, and a company should have no problem allowing that unless they have something to hide.

Tell me why I should choose you.

The company should give a good answer to this question. See if the answer given seems genuine and not something copied off the text of their website. The best ones answer with confidence and believe that theyre the best.

Where Can You Buy A Small Personal Hovercraft?

For most things that we want to buy, it's quite easy. We look for store that specializes in the vehicle that we are interested in, but it doesn't work that way with small personal hovercraft for sale, because the industry is so young. There are plenty of motorbike shops and any number of car showrooms around most towns. It's even possible to go and browse a selection of electric vehicles, but it's just not like that for air cushioned vehicles - not yet, that is! The use of new construction materials has brought the leisure industry into a new era, with jet skis and the like bringing a new level of excitement to our leisure time. The newest kid on the block is the small hovercraft, bot for racing and just for fun!

Up until now, the only way to buy is to search around on the internet, but this is often not too satisfactory as people like to get their hands on these things before shelling out several thousand dollars. It is possible to find what you are looking for n the web and then go to a distributor near you before making that important decision. Sadly, it isn't every country that has the right craft that suits your needs, and so you might end up ordering right over the internet. If going this route, unbiased reviews and owner comments and advice are absolutely crucial when you buy a hovercraft online.

There are many UK companies that sell hovercraft, which is not surprising as the country was it's birthplace. Christopher Cockerall had the idea and it was later perfected by Anthony Thornycroft. However, you still couldn't find hovercraft for sale on the high street, as it were! The first craft were large and specifically designed to ferry people and cars across the British Channel. Other companies like Hoverspeed and Hoverlloyd followed, but none of them turned a profit, and so folded after just a few years.

Small personal hovercraft didn't appear for general sale to the public until the late 80s, and their design and construction left much to be desired, simply because the materials were just not advanced enough to give the lightness and toughness necessary for such a craft in it's small form. As ideas and materials were focused specifically on producing personal hovercraft for the leisure market, then the evolution was rapid indeed. There was at that time, perhaps more than now, a class of younger professional people looking for a sports activity that was a little different, and this kind of transport fit the bill admirably - learn more.

How To Shop For A Car And Enjoy It

Car shopping is something everyone must do when they need a vehicle. There are tons of things to consider, however. If you just aren't sure what all you need to do when you're looking for a Ferrari F430 for sale, then this guide will help you. Follow along for solid advice on car buying.

Discuss cars with people in your life that you trust. Are they happy with the car choices they made? Are they sorry they purchased the vehicle? What are they hearing in terms of cars they'd wish to have? Talking with friends and acquaintances is a thing to do when shopping for a new car.

Research the value of your trade-in. Not only do you need to research the best price for the new car you would like to purchase, but you also need to know how much your trade-in is worth. Do your homework and find out the retail and wholesale values of your trade-in. Aim to get the retail value from the dealer.

If you want to get a new car, contact your bank and ask about loans before you start shopping. Doing this ensures your security. Many times the finance department of a dealership can find better rates than your bank. You should have an idea of what you would like your interest rate to be before you start shopping.

Make a wish list of cars that you are interested in. You have seen many cars in advertisements and on the road. It should be easy for you to build a solid list of vehicles that would suit your style. You can add a couple of dream cars that seem out of your range; however, be realistic about what you can afford.

When you are considering buying a used car, always have your mechanic check it out first. You are not a qualified mechanic trained to spot problems or repairs, so you need to take it to a professional. Be prepared to pay $100 or so for this service, but it may end up saving you thousands.

Before you even walk out the door to go to the different dealerships to search for an automobile to purchase, do your homework. If you have a specific car make and model that you are considering buying, do some background research. Have there been numerous recalls for this vehicle. What do current and former owners of this make and model say about their automobile?

If you aren't concerned about getting the absolutely latest model, consider car shopping in November or December. During this time frame, dealerships will offer deals on the current models. They want to clear out their inventory to make way for shipments of the next year's models. This means that you will be offered more incentives, lower sticker prices, and more room to negotiate!

Test drive more than one car before you buy it. Any new car is going to feel fantastic if you're used to driving an old one. Think seriously about how the ride feels, where the buttons are located, and how much of the road you are able to see. Test-driving more than one car will help you realize where you want to be.

Never agree to pay the asking price! There are few cars for sale out there that do not have some room for negotiation in the price. When you have researched the vehicle, inspected it and given it your approval, negotiate the final price based off your findings. Do not settle on a price until you are happy with your investment.

Many people who have bad credit end up at a buy-here pay-here dealership. Be very careful of these types of dealers. Usually they buy cars at auction for little money and the majority of the money they make is off of the high interest rates they charge. If you have any choice, always get a loan from a bank, not the dealership.

As the above article said, it's important to consider a variety of things when going car shopping. If you take the above advice and stick to it, you'll have an easier time when you're looking for a vehicle. Don't delay and start your car shopping soon so you can get the car you want!

Motorcycle Training - Get Set For A Ride

Motorcycle training teaches bike riders the skills for riding on roads. It is aimed at people with little or absolutely no riding knowledge or experience. There are several training schools that empower students with the latest riding techniques and skills that will safeguard them throughout their motorcycle journey. The courses are specially designed to provide skills required to operate a motorcycle competently and safely. Furthermore, there are additional courses that are offered for sports riding, street riding refreshers, etc.

Motor cycle training includes both classroom instructions and practical road training. The successful completion of the course requires passing skills as well as written tests. This, in turn, enables bike riders to receive a Program Certification. However, it is certainly not about failing or passing at riding a motorcycle; it is all about building enough confidence, in order to make a safe and intact choice on the road and learning the appropriate techniques to handle all kinds of situations.

The standard concepts taught at such training schools include basic bike handling, low-speed bike control, skid management, corner and curve maneuvering, and maneuvering in restricted space. Many states require students to have completed at least basic training course to apply for a bike endorsement. Applicants can choose from advanced, intermediate, and basic motorcycle training courses. Such applicants must also possess a driver's license or valid learner's permit, and those who are under 18 years of age must get a signed waiver from their parents. Advanced bike courses require significant riding experience.

Students in beginning classes learn how to shift, brake, ride, and steer motorcycles. Hands-on and classroom training is designed to keep riders safe. Coursework focuses on various types of bike gears, road rules, bikes, trails, proper braking, night bike riding, and motorcycle shift controls. On the other hand, intermediate bike training focuses on enhancing further skills of bike riders. It helps students further their skills and knowledge in lane positioning, safety gear, collision avoidance. Furthermore, it provides training in performing daily motorcycle and maintenance tasks. It is generally a one day course and may involve exercises to enhance traction management, emergency braking, and swerving to fend off obstacles. Advanced training course involves advance training in bike handling, maneuvering, braking, and body positioning. Students generally carry their own helmet, high boots, gloves, pants, long sleeve shirts, and goggles. The course is specially designed for those who have logged at least 3000 miles of bike riding.

Short History Of The Hovercraft

A hovercraft is a vehicle supported on a cushion of air supplied by a powered fan mounted on the craft. Hovercraft SK-5The hovercraft was invented by Christopher Cockerell in 1956. The theory behind one of the most successful inventions of the 20th century, the Hovercraft, was originally tested in 1955 using an empty KiteKat cat food tin inside a coffee tin, an industrial air blower and a pair of kitchen scales. Sir Christopher Cockerell developed the first practical hovercraft designs, these led to the first hovercraft to be produced commercially, the SRN1.

Christopher Cockerell's idea was to build a vehicle that would move over the water's surface, floating on a layer of air. This would reduce friction between the water and vehicle. To test his hypothesis, he put one a smaller can inside a larger can and used a hairdryer to blow air into them. The downward thrust produced was greater when one can was inside the other rather than air just being blown into one can.

Christopher Cockerell - Biography (information provided by NASA)

Christopher Sydney Cockerell was born in 1910. He worked for the Radio Research Company until 1935 and then for the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company from 1935 until 1951. During the war years, Christopher Cockerell worked with an elite team at Marconi to develop radar, a development which Churchill believed had a significant effect on the outcome of the Second World War, and Cockerell believed to be one of his greatest achievements. While at Marconi, Christopher Cockerell patented 36 of his ideas. Christopher Cockerell was knighted for his achievement in 1969.

Power-to-weight-to-strength - The hull of the hovercraft

The next consideration for a properly functioning hovercraft is the power-to-weight-to-strength ratio, which affects lift, propulsion and handling as well. This deals with the structural strength of the raft to be light enough to be lifted by the air cushion created underneath, yet strong enough to carry the weight of the engine, its passengers or payload. More information can be found on this site http://leisure-hovercraft.com

Air cushion vehicle hull construction is more closely based on aviation rather than marine constructions for the simple reason that aviation hulls are a combination of strength and lightness as opposed to strength as a priority. Although wood and plywood are often used, many hovercraft hull structures are made of aluminum (aluminium) skin, welded or riveted onto an aluminum web or frame. Enclosed spaces are sealed to provide airtight compartments for natural buoyancy.

Finding The Right Used Audi For Sale

If you're buying a used vehicle, an Audi is an excellent choice. These cars are known for their durability. Even if the one you buy has been driven extensively, you should be able to rely on it for a number of years to come.

With that said, you're still going to want to make sure you find the best car for your needs. Here are a few of the things you should try to keep in mind as you look for a used Audi for sale.

It's Smart To Buy From A Dealership

Although you can find a number of excellent deals when looking at cars sold by private sellers, in the long run, going to a professional car dealer is your best bet. You'll have a lot more security, and you'll find that you have more options as well.

When you buy your car from a private seller, you may not have any recourse if the car stops working a few weeks or months down the road. If you have a problem with a car that you bought from a dealer, you can take it in, and they'll take care of the problem for you. That kind of service is worth paying a little more for.

Make Sure You Choose The Right Dealership

While buying a car from a dealer is generally the more secure option, there are some dealers that are much better than others. Try to find a dealer that has a lot of positive reviews from customers.

You may want to talk to your friends and family members to find out if there's a dealership in the area you recommend. You can also read reviews of local dealers online. You should be able to find a lot of information there that'll help you in your search.

Do Your Research First

The more you know about what it is you're going to buy, the easier it will be for you to get a good deal. If you know you want an Audi, you'll want to read up on the different makes and models of Audis. Find out which ones have received a lot of positive feedback, and which ones have problems.

It's also important to make sure you know what sort of prices are reasonable for used Audis. Check the listed value for the kind of cars that you're considering. When you go look at cars, make sure that the price seems fair.

Test Drive The Car

You don't want to buy a car unless you've had a chance to see how it drives! Make sure you get a chance to test drive your Audi before you make your purchase. Don't go out on a rushed test drive; try to drive it until you're satisfied.

It's easy to find a used Audi for sale, but you want to make sure you find the right vehicle for you. Take a look at all your options, and don't make a purchase until you find a car you love.

Problems Associated With Leisure Hovercraft

On the face of it, a hovercraft has a simple principle - simply provide a pressurized cushion of air underneath the hull, contain it with a skirt attached to the periphery of the hull and it will fly. As with most things in life, it's never as easy as all that. There are many things that hovercraft design needs to take into account, both in terms of safety and practicalities. Assuming that we have a good theoretical design and a working prototype machine, what are the practical tests required to ensure correct operation in all conditions?

An air cushioned craft can lift off from two basic types of surface either dry or wet. The thrust power required to lift off from the two are just not the same. In fact, it takes more power to lift a craft from the surface of a river, lake or the sea than it does from dry land, ice or any other solid surface. Lifting off from water is known as 'getting over the hump' and is a particular problem for hovercraft designers. The power to weight ratio is important and unfortunately an engine needs to be designed with extra capacity to give up to 25% more power than needed for normal flight, just to lift off from a wet surface if needed.

A low powered vehicle may have difficulty lifting off from water, but this is generally an inconvenience. Lightening the load a little will ensure lift off and it's not a safety issue unless you happen to be stranded miles out to sea. However, there is one feature that is potentially hazardous and this is called 'Plow-In'. When an ACV is moving at full speed over the sea, or other turbulent water, the surface may not always be flat. On the sea, waves are an important factor for smooth hovercraft flight. Similarly over river rapids, the same principles apply. Actually, the problem on river rapids is probably more acute because rocks may be jutting up or just below the surface of the water.

On the sea, it's common for a wave to rise up and strike the bow of a small boat or hovercraft. A boat will simply bounce over the top of it, but in the case of an ACV this can have disastrous effect. Hovercraft design is crucial - if not designed correctly, the wave will cause the front to dip into the water, which is called 'Plow-In'. The bow plows into the water, raising the stern and coming to a very abrupt stop. This is obviously a major safety concern, as any passengers will be thrown violently into the sea, or come into contact with the craft causing injury.

A Brief History Of The Agm Battery.

AGM battery technology was first developed in the 1980s by Concorde aircraft battery. They were looking for a cheaper alternative to the NI-Cad batteries that were used in fighter jets and naval helicopters. The batteries were designed to be vibration resistant.

AGM stand for Absorbed Glass Mat. The batteries have lead plates within them. The electrolyte is absorbed into finely woven Boron-Silicate glass fibre mats. The saturated mats are placed between the plates.

AGM batteries are very similar to flooded lead acid batteries but the only difference is that they hold the electrolyte inside a glass mat instead of allowing it flood freely over the plates. Therefore, you will not lose any electrolyte if the battery is turned over or held upside down.

Because the batteries were developed for military use, they can take much more abuse than standard deep cycle gel batteries or wet cell. Therefore, there is nothing to spill or leak and they are free from freezing damage.

AGM batteries can be stored in areas considered to be prohibited because there are no fumes or leakage. Another major advantage is that they can be stored on end or on their sides if need be without any damage.

The battery is constructed in such a way that the electrolyte is close to the active plate material. This makes charge cycles and discharge more efficient. Because of this and because of the fact that the internal resistance of the battery is very low they charge at a faster rate and to a higher capacity.

Because an AGM battery has a low discharged rate when stored for longer periods of time, they can quickly be recharged back to over 95% of their capacity provided they have not been left for too long in a discharged for a very longer period of time.

AGM batteries have a charging rate of up to 75% of their rated ampere hour capacity. This may lead to damaged standard auto chargers or alternators since they are susceptible to excessive heat generated when trying to deliver the maximum amps.

The good part is the fact that AGM batteries will charge at lesser rates. However, if you are going to spend money on a quality battery, it is a good idea to buy a quality three-stage charger.

An AGM battery can be used for many different functions. They can be used in deep cycle applications, as starting batteries or as standby batteries for critical powered systems. These roles make the batteries ideal for camping applications.

Tyre Pressure And Tyre Care

Tyre pressure-

Tyre pressure is not determined by the size or the type of the tyre but by the vehicles load and the speed that is the driving application.

The vehicles load-

This is also known as towing. The loads exert an extra pressure on the tyres. In a fully loaded vehicle with luggage and passengers, the general rule is add 28kpa or 4lbs of loads.

High speed-

The high speed is defined as driving at a speed of 120km/ h for every hour. Double tyre wear is experienced when one drives at 70- 80 km/ h. Under-inflation of tyres reduces the lifespan of the tyres by 30%. The tyres should not be inflated above 40psi or 280 kPa because when the tyres get hot the pressure increases too.

How do you find out the tyre pressure for your car?

To establish the suitable tyre pressure for your car consult the manufacturers tyre placard. The placard is found in the glove box, drivers door sill, under the bonnet or in the glove box.

The placard also displays the manufacturers recommended sizes of tyres.

When should the tyre pressure be checked?

The tyre pressure increases as the tyre becomes hot implying that the pressure of the tyre should be checked when cold. Obtain the cold readings and compare them with the recommended tyre pressure on the placard.

Tyre pressure and environmental impacts-

Regularly checking your tyre pressure can help us to be more environmentally friendly. Under- inflated tyres generate more rolling resistance which is translated to higher fuel consumption. Proper tyre inflation would help to maximize the vehicles fuel economy hence minimizing on its effects on the environment.

Tyre care-

Regular check on air pressure. It is recommended that the checks be on a weekly basis, at the time when the tyres are cold and use a gauge for accuracy.

Getting the correct tyre for your car. Obtain the information from the manufacturers placard indicating the speed rating, load capacity, inflation pressure recommended and the correct tyre size.

Avoid mixing up of different tyre brands all on one axle. These brands vary in construction styles and might be of varying sizes and aspect ratios.

Avoid acceleration and hard braking. This causes faster wear.

Park carefully to avoid damages on the tyres. This reduces damage sidewalls of the tyre.

Ensure the tyres treading is more than 1.6mm for safe driving in wet and muddy conditions without skidding.

Let a qualified technician fit the tyres correctly on the wheel. Avoid using sealants during tyre repair as they cancel the tyre warranties

The Perks Of A Gps Fleet Tracking System

In today's dynamic trucking industry, a GPS tracking system allows the company to get a real-time, pinpointed view of the location and condition of every vehicle, no matter where the are.

While it is important for the dispatcher to know where all of the vehicles are geographically, there is much more in the way of information that can be very helpful, if not vital to a more profitable and efficient deliver of the truck's contents.

A GPS tracking system tracks and monitors vehicles by satellite which will display whether the truck is moving or static, and many other types of information as well. The system can also monitor such items as fuel efficiency, time of travel, length of time of stops, routing of vehicles if there are incidents of trouble or accidents along the way, and mechanical details of importance.

By utilizing up-to-date dispatcher to driver communications, the driver can see a map of an assigned route with voice communication in most instances. If there is a hazard ahead, the system can alert the driver, and offer an alternative route. This can help save time and provides a safer situation for the driver and the shipment.

The system can also offer a totally electronic logging system to eliminate paperwork and keep track of the driver's mandatory rest periods and miles driven in order to meet the new compliance requirements.

TIGTrack's GPS fleet reporting also offers a composite of the entire fleet of truck in a real-time environment so that everything that is going on in the entire fleet. Everything from vehicle diagnosics, arrival-departure times per vehicle, vehicle maintenance reports, time carding solutions, PTO and non-PTO reports, speeding reports and many other types of data that are pertinent to an efficient and well-run fleet.

Accountability can be enhanced with historic playback features which cannot lie as they are created from real time monitoring conditions. Either a driver is speeding or he is not. Either he is driving in a safe manner or he is not.

Reports can be scheduled for specific times so that different managers and fleet consultants can view them a a prearranged time so they can be evaluated as a team and the analysis can be broken down to the point when the team is together.

There is no doubt that knowledge is power when it comes to running an efficient and profitable trucking business, and a good GPS tracking system is a big help in making that happen.
